Mystery Friday Post- Resurrection Captured On Video

Earlier this week, someone sent me a video trailer promoting an upcoming documentary. What I watched stunned me to my core. I’d like to share this video with you here today because this video is a breathtaking picture of Jesus Christ. The implications of what you will see are quite profound. I will explain the video a bit further in a few minutes. Before I do that, however, I’d like to highlight a significant comment that came into this blog earlier this week.

I greatly appreciate each and every comment that readers take the time to post in response to articles that are regularly posted here. I am not always able to respond to each comment, but I’d like to. The commentary is, in my opinion, just as important as the article itself. With that said, I’d like to highlight one specific comment that both humbled me and helped me see something that I found to be eye opening. Here is the comment:

I have spent several hours reading around your blog. It is like a sweet smelling aroma and fresh spring breeze to my heart. You speak of the truths I spent several years researching, studying and praying over for the last 7 years. Especially as to how the Body is to operate and the problems with human authorities within the Body of Christ…This sort of thing is like finding a brother in Christ in a communist country. )

While this comment is flattering to me, I’m not sharing it with you for that purpose. There is something quite profound behind the comment that I want to draw attention to. I know exactly what this reader is saying when she says that she feels like she lives in a communist country and has found another believer in Christ.

She is right.

Spiritual slavery is much more widespread and entrenched than we may think. Totalitarian countries are but a small external shadow of the real enslavement that comes from the world’s systems; including the world’s religious system. Many believers in Jesus Christ who are a precious part of Christ’s bride are still operating behind the ‘iron curtain’ of the institutional system. Sadly, many do not know of the slavery they have been reduced to.

There are many, however, who know they are not free. When those who know they are enslaved catch a glimpse of the freedom of the person of Jesus Christ, one of the first things they realize is that they have been living in a religious prison. Christ also died to set us free from religious cages. Like the commenter above communicated in her comment on the blog, catching a glimpse of the reality of Jesus Christ seemed to be like a “fresh spring breeze” to her heart. The life of ‘spring’ awakens us from the slumber and death of the winter cage we’ve been living in. This was also my reaction to discovering Jesus Christ through the writings and ministries of other brothers and sisters in Christ.

Hearing Jesus Christ truly expressed from brothers and sisters who operate by Spirit is like hearing life giving music that sets us free from the cages of death we’ve been living in. That brings me back to the video that I mentioned at the beginning of this post.

In this video that you are getting ready to watch, you will see a glimpse of the story of a man named Henry. Henry has been living in a physical cage for almost ten years in a nursing home. The reaction that Henry has to his favorite music is a small example of Romans 8:11 which states:

But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. (Romans 8:11, NASB)

Hearing Christ expressed according to the Spirit will have a dramatic affect on our lives and even our ‘mortal’ bodies as the scriptures communicate.

Take a few minutes to watch this video. After hearing the music, Henry even states a profound truth about his identity. You’ll have to pay close attention to catch it:) As you watch, remember that Jesus Christ is the true music that awakens us out of the cages we’ve been enslaved to. He is the one who restores our identity back to who He intended us to be in Himself. The result is life:

  1. my very dear brother, one day we will meet, and I will be able to share with you what this has meant to me.

We are free in Christ, alive in Him, it is in Him that we move and have our being, indeed fully human, in Christ.

    Thank you Jamal!

  2. thank you Jamal for this wonderful video.
You know it is true that we have been a religious prison. When I was a child I had the most wonderful church experiences; ones of love for each other, potlucks and fellowship with other believers; simple Bible camps, where I learned to memorize my verses; godly pastors who were humble and dedicated to the teaching of Scripture- this is where I first became a believer. No one forced me to accept Him as my Savior, it was my choice to have faith in Him for what He did for me. I still look on those days as the most wonderful days in my life and all because of the simplicity of the Gospel. Today it is whose book will be the next best seller; whose conference will we attend; what new “thing” will be the next trend; what loaded theological language can we unload on the laity or flock- Please spare me your religiousity. This video showed me the simplicity of that which is Christ Jesus and His redeeming love for us.

  3. Another point- If we read the Gospels of Jesus, we will see how Christ Jesus treated those around Him. If we are running around this planet and presenting a “jesus” other than the one in Scripture, we do not know Him. Jesus in ALL His dealings with people treated all with a respect and love, especially for those who were thirsting after Him. The Pharisees, on the other hand, looked down on those who were not the elites; not the theologically astute; not as righteous as they. This is where Christ got angry and turned tables. Maybe we need a few turned tables today.

  4. The Lord came to me, made me holy. I’m a holy man, so He gave me these sounds… I love it!

  5. OH MY!!! The Holy Spirit lept inside me reading what you have written, matched with this video! I am an ombudsman at a nursing home and have been ‘getting under’ the sadness of so many people like this man. But all those years this man was a free man in God’s eyes. Now he is a free man in other people’s eyes. Hallelujah. Thank you for this beautiful illustration. I see more clearly what Jesus had done for me, in setting me free from years of religious bondage.

It has much nicer comments underneath it …

  7. This is beautiful! Jesus Christ is that beautiful, lovely, joeys music to us! He is the harmony of Heaven the perfect balance of beauty and strength! Only in Him our hearts find perfect rest and the striving ceases!
Just as Henry had to tune himself to that lovely music for his head to lift, his eyes to lit, his face radiant with joy and feeling alive inside, so it is with us. As we turn our inner eyes and our inner ears to Him and see in the Spirit the most beautiful Person that ever exist, we can’t help but fall in love and freedom is just product of that. He does not give us freedom He is the freedom Himself, inside of us.
Now where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty!!!

“He does not give us freedom, He is the freedom Himself, inside of us.” -Beautifully said Marsela.

  8. Wow, that is so cool! What a great, living-color example of the Spirit quickening a man. Praise the Lord!

  9. When I was a teen, my mother, sister, some friends and I used to go to nursing homes to minister in music. I got to see this animation firsthand. I have only been back a few times since to share music, but the LOVE that the people there exhibit is profound. Just an outpouring of love and the music, like the Holy Spirit, just draws it out. It’s irresistible!
Thanks for sharing this powerful message, Jamal. The Lord has used it to speak to me.
    Praise the Lord!
