My First Impression Of You…

July 16, 2013

First impressions can be difficult to overcome. The first time someone truly sees you, will be how they usually see you in life. Who you are to them will be filtered through this lens of you acquired during their first impression.

Have you ever wondered what His first impression of you was?

I know what His first impression of you was because He told me. It’s too late to change His first impression of you. You don’t have to worry, however. Thankfully, His first impression of you was very good.

Before the foundations of the world were formed, He saw you. He knew you. His first impression of you is rooted in Him, before time was created. You were going to be the best part of His creation, and He saw that you were very good.

The first time He saw you, He fell in love with you.

The first time He saw you, He saw that you would bear His image & likeness.

The image and likeness that you carry is light. His light.

The image and likeness that you carry is uniquely beautiful because you were chosen to carry and express a very specific spectrum of this light, His light, to the universe.

The moon and the stars were made to be an image of the light that you bear. Each point of light was a picture of you. You personally, and all of you.

The first time He saw your face, His impression of you was complete, lacking nothing.

There was no condemnation in His first impression of you.

When you were caught in adultry, and they had rocks in their hands to condemn you, His first impression of you before time began was how He saw you in the moment in time when you had become ignorant of His first impression of you.

When He first saw your face, it was love at first sight. This love bears all things & endures all things. It never ceases.

This love shines in the darkness. His first impression of your (His) light was not able to be overcome by the darkness.

His first impression of you is accurate, and is the only impression of you that will endure to the end.

It’s never too late to acquire His first impression of you and your brothers and sisters.

His first impression of you is expressed in this song. Listen and remember.

  1. as I started reading this post my internal sound system starting playing Roberta Flack’s version if this song.

we only have one chance to make a first impression, and this one is eternally present in our Fathers eyes.

  2. Jamal, excellent, and you made yourself so clear. Thank you for this word. People will travel far and wide to see the seven wonders of the world and are in awe of nature. We enjoy seeing and experiencing Gods creation and then we put ourselves down and devalue ourselves, letting ourselves be used by the world and others. We condemn ourselves when God has not. We have not understood that we are His greatest and most awesome creation, being made into His image and likeness. We are the only created being that are made in His image, even the angels are not created in His image. I will never condemn myself since I have discovered John 3:17. Now this will make you jump up and down, I did. It says; “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” Also Rom. 8:1 says; “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus”.
This word is the light that God has given us to light the world with His love.

  3. Okay, so I’m flying high on this one. Thank you, Jamal, for so making our day with this. Who needs a glass of wine later? I think this reminder will do just fine, thank you 🙂

Just one question to stay on the same page with you (I don’t want to leave). Can you explain a bit more what is meant by, “His first impression of you before time began was how He saw you in the moment in time when you had become ignorant of His first impression of you.”

    Thank you again.

    • Pam,

Ha ha, His wine is the best! I’m glad that we could share a glass today:)

Regarding your question, let’s use the woman who was caught in adultry as an example. If He would have saw her from the vantage point of the law, He would have to condemn her. According to the law, she was condemned. His vision of her, however, was from the beginning. Before sin. Before time. The scriptures say that we were in Christ from before the foundations of the world. Time itself is in Christ, but His boundries are larger than time. He is the beginning and the end (Alpha & Omega) in the present tense (I AM). His impression of us in the beginning is the same as it is in the end. His impression of us is from that place.

In time, we fell into sin and our identity was marred. We forgot our true identity and accepted a false one. Christ has entered into time and redeemed our identity. He put to death on the cross the false identity. His timeless impression of us has broken into time:) I hope that makes sense:)

I look forward to seeing you soon sister:)

I like the way Thomas f Torrance writes about it..he says that Christ did not just die for our sin but also lived a perfect sinless life before his crucifiction for us.

  5. Thanks, Jamal. i love the way you write. So clear, with love. Somehow i forget that He sees me this way, i needed the reminding…perfect timing.

  6. Beautiful Jamal…beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! Love you brother.

    • As I was continuing behold the Lord in this truth, these lyrics from Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars” struck a new chord in me:

“All that I am, all that I ever was
Is here in your perfect eyes, they’re all I can see”

Jesus, give us eyes to see!

You are a man after God’s own heart. Love you too.

      • “I believe it and receive it in the name of Jesus”…read that in Trev’s southern baptist preacher from east TN voice, and you’ll get a good laugh. However you read it, it’s totally true and I appreciate the encouragement brotherman!

  7. Very refreshing post. thank you Jamal
