Do You Know Why I’m Being Silent With You?

October 17, 2013

My Dearest Sister,

I am writing to inform you of the reasons regarding my silence.  My silence is not because of my lack of love for you.  Actually, just the opposite.  My silence (or perceived silence) toward you could be for a few reasons.  When you hear these reasons, you will know which is most applicable toward our situation.

In case you haven’t noticed, I like to have fun with you.  I am creative.  Just when you think you have dissected my mode of communication down to a formula or familiar method, I change things up.  I have the ability to communicate with you in ways that you have never dreamed of.  It’s glorious when I hide my treasures from you, and it’s so very glorious when you find the little treasures that I have hidden for you in plain sight!

I love it when you discover the little treasures that I have hidden for you because it is then that you realize that I have not been silent.  I simply love to speak to you in riddles.  I love to speak to you through your brothers and sisters that you would rather ignore, and I love to speak to you through the most mundane of everyday circumstances.  As a matter of fact, not a day goes by that I am not eloquently speaking to you in the most easily overlooked details.

Sometimes my silence toward you is because of marination.  I have already shared my heart with you, sister.  What I had to share with you was of the utmost importance.  I don’t want you to move on to the next item on your checklist.  I want you to marinate on what I carefully took the time to share with you.  There is so much that I want to unfold in you because of what I already shared.  I will not speak with you until you have been marinated in what I shared.  Until then, there is nothing more that I can say to you.  You might just want to pull up a chair and sit for a while.  I’m not in a hurry.

I went into my deepest chambers and I opened up my treasure chest.

For you

I pulled out some of my most precious treasures to share with you.  When you first saw them, you were astounded and delighted, and it was my joy to share these treasures with you.  There is no one else whom I wanted to share these treasures with.  Just you.  Unfortunately, something happened after I shared my treasure with you.

A liar came to you.

This liar threw garbage on my most precious treasure.  Because you believed this lie, my purest treasure became tainted in your eyes. What I have called clean, you have called unclean.  You became afraid of my treasure.  Instead of seeing my treasure as a gift, you began to see my treasure as a threat.  Your reaction to my gift has left me speechless.  What else can I say?  Tell me, and I’ll say it.  No, I will wait for you in silence until you welcome me back, along with my treasure, into your open arms.  Until then, I will remain quietly with you.

“It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.” -(Proverbs 25:2, NASB)

“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her!  How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling.  Behold, your house is being left to you desolate!  For I say to you, from now on you will not see Me until you say ‘BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD!” – (Matthew 23:37-39, NASB)

  1. Beautiful words from the heart of God, my brother.

  2. Blessed is He ~ Josh Garrels

    “You will not see me
    Again until you can say
    Blessed is He
Who comes in the name of the Lord
    Amen” ~ Josh Garrels

when or if we fail to recognize the one, or ones that The Lord has sent to us, we fail to ‘see’ and ‘hear’ what He has for us, and this is foolish to say the least.

  3. Just from reading the title I knew this would be life affirming and from The Lord. The Lord has been trying to teach me for years that He speaks even when He is “silent”. This message hits home for me and I’m sure many others. Sending love and gratitude your way for unveiling our Lord’s nature once again, Jamal.
He is completely Beautiful and Eternally Intriguing.

  4. Sometimes the biggest silence is an indication that something even more wonderful is coming. The Father was silent, no prophetic word for 400 years, and then Christ came into the world and forever changed our relationship to Him and each other.

There is an eternal cadence He desires we enter into.. Rest in the Father’s love for you and wait expectantly for Him. Be still and know… It’s in the silence, the waiting, the resting in the sure knowledge of who He is and that He loves us that we are changed…

  5. Dear Jamal
Hiding those treasures for us to find, is such a great gift of love! When we find them, and we only do through revelation, it is so much sweeter. To find our Lord and touch Him and then search again to find Him in a deeper. Oh, that is the paradox of the soul.
    Blessings XX

  6. Jamal, your post is absolutely stunning, amazingly beautiful! Moments ago, this writing inspired the poem below, and so, I thought to share the short poetry writing here, where the inspiring words are written.

    The Turning of Your Face

Listen, hear the arousing voice of my heart
longing with my enduring love for you.
You have heard me, and you have seen me,
in and through the body of my dwelling.

You beheld the treasure of my glory,
and breathed free with the life of my love.
You danced to the melody of heaven’s delight —
the Spirit life of love within one body, mind and heart.

Then, your breathing labored and your dancing stilled —
you turned your eyes toward the dirty face of the lie.
As you beheld another, the face of your first love faded,
and the boundaries of your walls became your measure.

The clarity of vision in your mind of heart
became filtered in the flesh of the lie.
The sight and voice of me, in and through my body,
blurred by the earthy fog in your eyes.

I am speaking to you, yet you hear me not,
because you heard and believed the lie.
I am in front of you and in you, yet you see me not,
because you saw its face and believed the lie.

    Because you believed the lie,
you rejected the voice of my love and treasure.
Fear covered the eyes of your heart, and you hide,
confidently afraid of the revealing fullness of my love.

Listen, hear the arousing voice of my heart
longing within my enduring love for you.
I am with you; I am not silent
as I await the turning of your face to mine.

    • Lovely. Have you read any St. John of the Cross?

I was just telling someone that I love to tell people that one of the great lessons of the “prodigal” story is that He is, actively, as in seeking, waiting for us to come to Him.

      • Chris,
Thank you. No, I have not read the book you mention. Actually, I have never heard of it. (I take it that you are not speaking of John’s correspondences in the N. T. Writings.) Thanks for your reply to my comment!

  7. He is the one who coined the term, “The Dark Night of the Soul.” Here is an introductory link:

There is one book they do not list, “The Living Flame of Love.”

  8. Beautiful….I love it ! 😀

i can see myself in each of those places. My perception & perspective (my interpretation & my point of view) about life, love…God, is constantly being discombobulated. What im deducting is that i just dont know very much of anything. Except im head-over-heels crazy in love with Jesus! So im just gonna keep drinking Him in. Im just gonna keep my eyes on Him. Thanks, Jamal for always pointing me to Him; for always putting Jesus front & center. Just like He should be. Just like He is.

  10. Treasuring these words in my heart…thankful for your gift of speaking truth into the family of Christ, Jamal. Bless you, brother!
