Don't Show Up To A Potluck Empty handed...

Dear friends,

Have you ever been invited to a potluck? If you have, you know that it can be a lot of fun trying all the different dishes that each person brings. Some dishes you will naturally enjoy more than others because everyone has different tastes and preferences. When everyone brings a dish, the feast is abundant.

Did you know that relationships and connection with others is like a potluck, so to speak?

Did you know that if you bring a dish to a potluck that you greatly enjoy, and if you make enough for others, you'll never have to worry about going hungry?

Most people are dissatisfied with their level and quality of relational connections (lonely) precisely because they keep showing up to the potluck of life empty handed.

If we keep showing up to the potlucks of life empty handed and hungry, we may enjoy the potlucks initially, but after a while, we may start to complain about a lack of quality food that we enjoy. Not only that, others may begin to resent our selfish approach to the potluck. This often leads to resentment on all sides.

There is only one way to create robust and abundant potlucks (relational connections) in life. We must bring an abundance of our own favorite signature dish, and we must come to the potluck ready to eat.

Whenever we gather with others relationally, or at an event, our ability to enjoy the time will be proportionate to our ability to bring an abundant dish, and our ability to receive from that dish as well as the dishes of others.

Unfortunately, most people are dissatisfied with their potlucks because they are starving and empty-handed, and they keep showing up to the potlucks thinking they can live on the dishes of others alone.

Believe it or not, you are in possession of a dish that is truly gourmet and rare. Have you learned to eat from this dish that only YOU possess?

Are you actively eating from this dish?

If not, you may be feeling the deep ache of disconnection and loneliness.

I had the opportunity to speak about this at a fundraising event for a special non-profit organization in Washington just last week. You can hear more about it HERE.

Let's learn how to show up to the potluck of life with our own abundant dish,
