Pro Tip 22: Love Must Be Assumed, Never Proved...

Love Must Be Assumed, Never Proved...

Chances are you know someone, or have encountered someone, whom you felt you had to continually prove your loyalty or love to. If you didn't communicate with them for a while, the relationship grew distant and maybe even hostile.

The person on the giving end of such a relationship will often become resentful over time due to feeling the constant need to prove themselves and their love. The person on the receiving end will almost always find a reason to see that the other person isn't truly sincere or doesn't really love them. This also leads to resentment, and resentment leads to relational breakdown.

When love must be proved, relationships cannot be sustained. Offense is always around the corner with such people.

When love is assumed, however, relationships can be easily sustained. The key word in such relationships is ease. No matter how much time has passed between communication, excitement and gratitude is the sensation when communication resumes.

When we assume we are loved, life feels abundant. When we need love to be proved, however, life feels heavy.

People who need love to be proved are looking for love in the future (which doesn't exist), but people who assume love feel loved now.

The reason that many people feel the need to have love proved to them is because of unhealed and unprocessed trauma. It's a brutal cycle that keeps the pattern of trauma going.

Which kind of person are you? Do people have to prove their love and loyalty to you, or do you easily assume their love?

May we learn the art of how to assume love today.
